hi everyone. At Julie's workshop some of us had a conversation about the phenomena of 'guerrilla knitting' or grafitti knitting as its also called. You can imagine my delight when I arrived at my rental apartment in Roma to find some guerilla knitting just outside my door. I told Julie (Oolie) I'd post some websites I know of that feature guerilla knitting, the best one is below which has loads of archive shots from around the world and wikipedia also has an explanation of the concept with links to interesting sites. The last web link is a project I did based on this concept, with a small group of rural Australian women knitters and crocheters - the result was lovely.

ReplyDeleteI thought about you all day long, wondering if you had made it home safely.
I LOVE the "guerilla knitting" - guess I didn't hear you talking about it. I look forward to checking the sights you posted.
Hard to think of you just now returning from your adventure, since I feel like I am finally feeling like I am "coming down" from it all.
You are just beginning the "de-brief".....enjoy!

yes my de-brief has just begun... had a good birthday thanks, mostly washing dirty clothes though.
ReplyDeletethanks for the comments Di. I loved doing that project - I love the diving board too!
Oh how fantastic is that post in Rome....they are soo trendy! But I felt really breathless when I looked at your arts project....that crochet birds nest is the most inspirational thing I have seen since the gooseflesh crochet artist, I wish I had made it! sigh.....
ReplyDeleteGlad you got home safe - will you post more of the arts projects?

Guerilla knitting makes me HAPPY!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great time in Rome,

thanks everyone! Its 1.30am here and I can't sleep - bit if jetlag I reckon...
ReplyDeleteDanielle you'll be delighted and surprised to know that the crochet nest was made by a man! He is an amazing artist - if I get his permission I will post some of the stuff he has done this year, its wonderful.
In the meantime, there is another small project I am doing with a community, part of which involves people stitching wishes onto old doylies, see link below and scroll down a bit to see the stitching. Its not a textile or stitching project, only a small part of it. Again, its a small community but they really responded to this part of the project.

I commented on your project link, as well, about the nest, spiderwebs, toadstools and tiny flowers.....wow.
ReplyDeleteI hope the "nest" gentleman will allow you to post more of his work. I am intrigued by his imagination....
Can't wait to check this next link....

Very Cool. Do they knit them on the pole or put them on afterwards. I have to go find one so I can see how they are attached to the poles.
ReplyDeleteI hope they put them on afterwards, can you imagine how difficult it must be to knit in situ?
