The blue and the dim and the dark cloths

HE WISHES FOR CLOTHES OF HEAVEN
Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
By W.B. Yeats

This is a poem that I love and that was read at our marriage service. As Chris only wears the colour blue it always seemed appropriate. This year I have made Chris a quilt out of his old blue clothes, which I shall give him for Christmas. It was inspired in part by the poem and the quilts of Gee's Bend. On the back I sewed words that were important to Chris and I. I have hand quilted it and am very pleased with myself as I have not done this before. So today I thought I would hang it in the sun and take some pictures of it before I wrap it up and hand it over with love. Joanna

  1. I think that the quilt you made is absolutely fantastic!
    Not only is it beautiful, it has soooo much meaning to it. I bet Chris was blown away by your intricate work and all the thought and love you put into it.
    Congratulations on your achievement, dear friend.
    What a gift...
